SMUD Headquarters Rehabilitation Project
Wednesday, September 19, 2018, 4:30pm to 6:00pm
6301 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95817
In 2014, SMUD began the process of rehabilitating their Headquarters building. The building was first occupied in 1960 and has served as SMUD's Headquarters since then. In 2010 the building was place on the National Register of Historic Places as an excellent example of Modern International Style.
In this presentation we will discuss the process SMUD went through to plan and implement the rehabilitation. Topics will include the decision to rehabilitate, historic concerns, employees moves, design, contractor selection, abatement, current state of construction and a tour of the construction site.
Doug Norwood is a manager in SMUD's Facilities Department. He has been with SMUD since 1990, working first with customers as a Commercial/Industrial Energy Specialist, and for the past 21 years has been in the Facilities Department with engineering, energy management and project management responsibilities.
Doug is a registered Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer. In 2007, he managed the project to achieve LEED-EB Platinum Certification for SMUD's Customer Service Center. In 2009 he began working as Technical Manager of the East Campus - Operations Center which was completed in 2013. This was a LEED-NC Platinum project. He is currently the project director for the rehabilitation of SMUD's 58-year-old historic Headquarters Building.
There is special requirements for the site tour...hard hat, safety glasses, vests, closed toed shoes. IFMA will have some on-site but if you have your own equipment, please bring with you.
